Kindergarten Resources
As a team we have worked very hard to find programs and resources to use in our classrooms that will inspire and challenge each child. We have found that there are many wonderful programs out there and are really excited about what we have learned from each of them. While we use these resources daily we also supplement our curriculum with tidbits from other programs, books, ideas and our own creative minds to construct a curriculum that meets each child's academic need.
FUNdations (language Arts program)
FUNdations is a researched based reading and writing program that thoroughly teaches the foundational skills needed to become successful readers. It follows the common core standards for language Arts. We are delighted to use this program with our kindergarten students. This program is designed for students K - 3 and I am happy to say Big Walnut Schools use it for these grades.
Math
Our math that we use is based on the Ohio Standards for math, using the benchmarks for kindergarten. We use a lot of manipulatives and age appropriate activities to teach math concepts. We do not follow a given program, we pull from several to teach the skill that is in our standards.
Being a Writer
We LOVE this program!!! This program really focuses on the writing process and teaching students how to find a love of writing!
Journeys Literacy Program
Journeys is our core reading program designed to meet the diverse needs of all students. It includes all the key elements desired in reading instruction, from incredible reading comprehension to fantastic decodable readers.
Interactive Read Alouds
When we read aloud to the kids it isn't just story time. We were inspired by the lessons and concepts in this book and have created our read alouds to build on and introduce the concepts and ideas that are essential to a student's success. Most importantly, in reading the stories with such purpose and excitement the kids LOVE read aloud time!
